It is not over. The correction changed the price. It did not change who is buying or why.
Central banks added gold at the fastest pace since the 1960s last year. That demand has not paused. It has broadened. New infrastructure is being built right now to make physical gold as transferable as a digital payment. When that switch flips, the buyer base does not grow by percentages. It grows by multiples.
The crowd is debating the spot price. Smart money is asking a different question. Where does the supply come from?
The Access Problem
For five thousand years, gold had a friction problem. It was heavy. It was expensive to store. It was difficult to move in small amounts. These limitations kept an entire class of buyers on the sidelines.
That barrier is dissolving. Major institutions are building systems that allow allocated physical gold to move as easily as money in a banking app. No vaults. No shipping. No storage fees. Just ownership of real metal, transferable with a click.
This is not a theoretical project. The infrastructure is being funded by companies generating billions in annual profit. They are backing it with physical bullion purchased at a pace that rivals central bank buying.
When access expands, demand follows. And demand for gold is not like demand for a consumer product. Every new buyer competes for the same finite supply.
The Supply Wall
Gold miners cannot respond to a demand surge the way a factory can. There is no overnight shift. No extra production run.
Discovery rates have declined for over a decade. Permitting timelines have stretched. The deposits being developed today are lower grade and more complex than the ones that built the current majors. Even at record margins, producers are depleting reserves faster than they can replace them.
Industry AISC sits near $1,400 an ounce against a $4,560 spot price.
Margins above 65 percent are generating record free cash flow.
But production growth remains flat because geology does not follow earnings reports.
The majors are cash-rich and reserve-poor. That imbalance has only one historical resolution.
The Asymmetry Below
Most investors respond to gold rallies by buying the metal or the largest miners. Those are reasonable positions. They are not where the asymmetry lives.
The asymmetry sits in the companies holding exactly what the majors need. Permitted deposits. Clean metallurgy. Short timelines. Stable jurisdictions. These assets do not multiply when gold rises. They become scarcer.
At $4,560, after a correction that compressed junior valuations far harder than the majors, the gap between what these assets are worth strategically and what the market charges for them has widened. The majors see that gap clearly. They have the balance sheets to close it.
Every past gold cycle produced its largest percentage gains not in the giants, but in the small group of operators that solved a supply problem the giants could not solve alone.
Compass Ahead
The gold correction is not the end of a thesis. It is the repricing that separates tourists from structural holders.
New access infrastructure is about to expand the buyer base for physical gold dramatically. The supply side cannot respond. The companies sitting on the ounces the market will need next are still priced as if none of this is happening.
